19

This last weekend I celebrated my 19th Birthday.
I was born on a foggy night on January 22nd 1992 around 3:00 a.m. A new baby helpless and fresh to the world. Souly dependent on my parents to teach and nurture me and help me grow. Now here I am at almost 3:00 a.m. 19 years later curled up in a blanket listening to my favorite song and reviewing a year gone by in my life. A new chapter begins a time for more growth and changes, some are going to be hard, others may feel challenging now but will help in the long run like finding a job and going to school or even changing my sleep schedule. I'll meet new people and learn new things, read more books, find more things to cry about, change my hair, change it again, fall in love, learn to let go, spend more time with my wonderful friends, take naps, make mistakes, but always I'll be myself.
I didn't do anything on my birthday as a matter fact I slept for most of it due to the fact that I was sick. When I woke up I found my house full of my brothers friends and laughed to myself. I didn't receive very much just a few things here and there but all where very appreciated. I didn't want anything for my birthday but I got everything I could ever want. The best gift I received this year was the chance to go see my dear friend Lady Lucy. Thinking back on it I don't remember a birthday in this house that Lucy wasn't apart of for one reason or another.

The day before my birthday I gathered up the most amazing women I can imagine and we all spent 4 hours in Clifford the big red van, i.e. the best car ever. The morning of I woke up to the sound of phone I had received a message from a talented and beautiful girl named Jamie. She was stuck at the U without a ride so I started my day off the way I wish I could everyday by going to see her. Later we gathered up the delicious Anita and the unfathomably wonderful Leigh. Then we swung around to the community college to gather my astoundingly gorgeous twin Sarah. From there we pressed one toward Ephraim with a stop in Provo to picked up the intelligent and incredible Morgan. Crammed in with some of my favorite people we ventured forth to the one stop light town that always fills my heart with so much joy. Up the stairs we fled and into the magnificent Kylee Berry's dorm where hugs and laughter and joy filled the space. We then crept down to the street to the home of some of the most amazing girls on the face of this planet. Due to a request I didn't tell Lucy that Leigh and Jamie where coming.

And this is her reaction shot.
It was worth every penny I spent on gas and even though I felt incredibly sick and the drive was long. Seeing all of my friends like this was worth more then any gift anyone could ever give me.

Now I will stop blathering and show you a few more highlights from the journey. Mainly the tables that are in the library...because there flippen sweet.

I hope you have a magnificent weekend and I'll see you next week. Until then here is one more picture of one of my favorite gifts (Eric sent them...he spoils me ;)

and my favorite song at the moment, mainly because this music video is so cute you can't help but smile when you watch it.

And with that I bid you all adieu.

Flood(ing)

~ Spotlights ~ Jamie ~ Dance ~

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means! (Okay, so maybe you don't, but I'm about to tell you.) I'm going try to post every wednesday. So, today, I kind of needed a cop out. I won't be getting brand new stuff up for a little while, but is only from last spring. What? Stop looking at me like that... Anyway, I thought it would be fitting to post this dance, entitled Flood, in light of all the rain/snow what has befallen Salt Lake as of late. This was one of our competition dances from last season, performed at our concert in early June 2010. Fun fact, you can't really see it too much in the recording, but our hair is dripping wet. At competition, we actually had a spray bottle and pretty much left puddles backstage... well we got a gold on the scoring scale thing (if you know what that is/means). So here it is. Enjoy
PS you get bonus points if you can find me at the beginning and follow me the whole time.
Hint - I'm the one in black...

Title?

Well this is the first blog that I have ever done so I will start with my background, and let you know where my artistic ability came from. I can describe my dad's side of the family in two words Latino and artistic (sorry to say that my mom's side isn't very artistic, but they do have other good skills). The Latino part I will save for some other time. With the artistic part starting with my grandpa Arturo Rivera Martinez, who pasted away about a month ago, had an amazing voice and was well known for it. If his family wasn't his first priority he would have been singing in the opera. His brother was also a great accordionist and I was told that they have appearted on tv and performed.
My dad Raymundo Arturo Martinez ( I am only mentioning their full names because they sound cool) also has an amazing voice. My uncle Samuel Castulo Martinez plays the guitar, and they have also performed together many times. A lot of my cousins play one or more instruments very well, and/or are very good artists. So as you can tell I am surrounded with amazing creativity and I only hope to become as good as them.

"You're majoring in what?"

"So, what's your major?"
"Musical Theatre."
"Oh... So what are you going to do with that?"

As forward as it sounds, this is an actual conversation I had with my Institute teacher. And I know you "can't" believe it, but I get that kind of reaction a lot. I've always wondered why Arts majors get that kind of reaction. Think about it. You've probably got a painting somewhere in your house. You've probably seen a play or musical in your life. You might dream of having that super cute dress of those really cool jeans. You might listen to the radio or have an ipod. You might have even read a book or seen a movie lately. And yet, I still get the look of utter confusion. Sure, I have my "back-up plan", and plan to double major in Psychology, but isn't that just as risky? I love to perform. Don't they always say, "Do what you love"? I've never been told, "Do what you love, but only if it makes you lots of money."
But anyways...
I'm Jamie, or Jamison on Blogger. I actually picked up Jamison from my dance instructor, and it just stuck.
Things I might blog about
  • Singing
  • Dancing
  • Acting
  • Writing
  • Guitar
You'll probably get more videos out of me than pictures, but I like to take nature shots, so I might post a few of those. Also, I love to do collaborations, so expect to see some guest "artists" in my blogs.
Things I WILL NOT blog about
  • llamas
  • LA Lakers (Boo)
  • Twilight (double Boo)
Things I'll try not to blog about
  • Harry Potter
  • Glee
  • Mini Coopers
But no promises.
So, that's about it. I'm a freshman in college. I'm excited to be doing this blog. I love Darren Criss. That's about all you need to know for now. So stay tuned, and enjoy.

I'm 18 years old, and I adore the arts!        Me personally, I'm more into Hair, Makeup, and Designing. I have my cosmetology lisence and am currently studying at the University of Utah for my Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree with a Major in Theater Design, and an emphasis in Wigs, Make up, and Costume design. One of my biggest dreams is to be a world renouned high fashion designer.I also am quite interested in Photography, and would love to perhaps someday earn a degree in that department as well. Another thing I do currently is dance, though it certainly isn't my forte. I sincerely hope that you find some inspiration my thoughts and ideas that I will post from here on out. Feel free to comment, question, or even just awknowelege anything you find worthy of note. Here's to a great year, and a wonderful future!
